I found this interesting link in a finnish forum. The maker of this page has made a few comparisons between Photoshop 7’s and PhotoFiltre’s jpeg compression. Those who are not aware of PhotoFiltre it is a little and quite capable image editor (freeware). It is not by any means as professional as the PS is.

The interesting point is that PS seems to make much more jpeg artefacts than PF when used suchlike compression level – at least when it comes to file size.
The page is in finnish but I think You’ll understand the results when You know that finnish word ‘pakkaustasolla’ is something like ‘using compression level’.
