I’ve recently been approved to "build out" a new computer for my work space. I would like to create something that is beneficial to the Adobe products, meaning something that will let them operate at their full potential. Also, I am running Windows 2000 (on a network), Illustrator-Photoshop-Acrobat, 3-D Studio Viz and AutoCAD as the main programs.

Can anyone give suggestions as to what’s the best configuration to accomplish this. As I do not see this as a help question for Adobe per say, I think that the subscribers here could offer the best advice. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to email me at

Thank you very much for the help. – Richard

A little difficult to say without knowing what you do with the software and what budget you have. Obviously, if money is not an issue, buy the fastest computer there is. But back to reality, I’d say try to get at least 1GB of RAM and two fast hard drives (at least 7200 rpm), one for software and one for data. And if you don’t have one yet, get a larger monitor, at least 19 inches.
