Often when I try to use a paintbrush in CS, I get no result. The brush simply will not work. This happens when painting in quick mask mode as well. I select a brush and begin painting (expecting to see the red mask appear), but instead I get absolutely nothing. When I perform these same actions in 7.0, I get the expected results. Any help you can provide would be great. Is this a known bug? Are there any fixes? Thanks, Julie Pickett

No known problem.

Check your brush settings. If you have a tablet – check it (and move the stylus off the tablet).

Chris,

Thanks so much for you response, but can you be more specific about brush settings?. For example, today I am trying to erase. When I first use the eraser, I get results. However, as soon as I tried to change the brush, the eraser no longer worked. I tried opening and closing the file, with no results. It is so frustrating that my brushes don’t seem to work as soon as I change the brush selection. When I open the same docuement in version 7, it works fine. Thank you!!! Julie P.

No – there are lots of brush settings, look in the brushes palette.

I have that problem as well. In fact, after about 30 minutes working with CS, all my tools stop functioning. I have to exit PS and restart it. I do believe this is a bug.

John,

That is undoubtedly a ‘bug’ but more likely to be a ‘bug’ with your machine than with Photoshop…

Why would it happen only with CS and not 7.0.1? If it is a "bug" with my machine, wouldn’t it happen on both?

No, they are two completely different applications with very different code in many areas. Just compare the difference is scratch file size as soon as each is opened to prove that to yourself. They use different API calls, and drivers may well work perfectly with one version and not the other, although both are using perfectly legal, but different calls.
