I have and am learning PS7. Before I spend a lot of time with this does PS CS offer much that would make it worthwhile to upgrade?

Nothing you learn about PS7 will be lost when you upgrade to CS CS is not "really" an upgrade but it has some interesting tools if you are a photographer.

It depends on what your uses are for the software. For a photographer it’s worth it. ACR, plus 16 bit adjustment layers were enough to make me upgrade.

There are rumours that CS2 is going to ship in March – might be worth investigating before upgrading

Why would you worry about an upgrade when you have not learned version 7 yet. If you have the extra money it would be best to upgrade and study with it, but for learning purposes you could spend the next 6 months just becomming an average user unless you are studying full time. Walk before running. How is your HARDWARE now. May be a better place to spend the extra money.
