I’ve always run Photoshop (7 and earlier) with color management off because I’ve found that it does more harm than good, particularly with web images, and until recently I’ve had no problems.
About three weeks ago I noticed that most images I opened appeared washed-out with very weak color. It is particularly noticeble if I rasterize an image with a spot color, as the spot color doesn’t look at all like it should. For example, reflex blue comes out more like process blue.
Further investigation shows that Illustrator 10 also is showing washed-out color, yet it also has color management turned off.
I’m completely baffled as I can’t think of any change to the system that would account for this. I should note that the monitor’s display characteristics haven’t changed, and everything outside of Photoshop and Illustrator looks exactly the same as it always has.
