I can set tool presets in Photoshop CS, but I can’t get them to work. For instance, I can set a 650×750 pixel crop preset, select it, click on my crop tool and go to crop the image…and Photoshop will make no attempt to constrain the size of my crop boundaries to 650×750 pixels. What is going on? Obviously I’m doing something wrong, but I don’t know what!

Dennis,

What is going on? <<

When you drag out with the crop tool everything within that area will be re-sampled to 650px x 750px.

To do what you want, use a fixed-size marquee and then Edit>Crop

That explains a lot. How do I get a fixed-size marquee?

Choose a marquee tool and have a peek at the options bar.
