Maybe this post is out of topic, but please excuse me.
I have been always thinking that PNG(Portable Network Graphics) as "portable, network graphics". An image format for the internet ("network graphics") that can be used on many different OS’s or devices ("portable").
However, a few minutes ago, that Korean version of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET has translated "portable" into "IDONG", which literally means "to move","moving" or "movement". Other terms like "network" and
"graphics" were merely transliterated because we Koreans use the same term.
As you know ‘portable’ has several meanings. The first meaning is, "Carried or moved with ease: a portable typewriter; a portable genera". In this case, "IDONG" is a correct translation for it. But, the Korean translation of ‘portable’ which I mentioned before is not ‘IDONG’. "Mobile network" is called "IDONG network" in Korea.
So the question is, whether it is "portable network, graphic" or "portable, network graphic" and what the meaning of "portable" here is. I hope I could hear from you native English speakers. Thank you.
