Web Gallery file name without the dot jpg

I am creating a web photo gallery with Photoshop 7. I would like to have the file name under each picture and thumbnail but not have the .jpg extension. Can I do this? If not is there another program that creates comparable web photo galleries that allows the file name without the extension?
