Hi all,
I am trying to look for a online tutorial guide on how to make a photo keep an object in the ORIGINAL color but to convert the rest of the photo to B&W. I know there is a way to convert the whole photo to B&W and colorize the object I want in colors, but that’s not what I am looking for. I want to keep the original color, let’s say the flower in a vase, but the whole room in B&W.

I am trying to look for a online tutorial guide on how to make a photo keep an object in the ORIGINAL color but to convert the rest of the photo to B&W.

Easy as pie.

1. Select the object using the selection tools (marquee, lasso, etc), or the Pen tool.

2. Select->Inverse.

3. Image->Adjust->Hue and Saturation, slide the Saturation slider down to 0. Alternately, choose black as the foreground color, and use Edit->Fill, choosing Color mode in the Fill dialog.

Make an Adjustment Layer with Channel Mixer and set this to monochrome output. Next, paint over your subject with a black brush in the mask of that layer.
