In Windows XP, color drivers (Adobe 1998, in particular) appear in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color.
However, in the same location in Vista 64bit, the Adobe 1998 driver, and a few others, are not present.
Yet, I was able to select Adobe 1998 in CS3's colour preferences.
So, where have the color drivers been installed on this Vista 64bit machine?
Many thanks.

Why not type drivers into that fantastic search box on the Start Menu?

Same place if you looked.

Thanks for the smart ass replies.
That's just my point. They're NOT there. Only sRGB is in that folder. None other.
Guess I'll just have to ask elsewhere.

Dinarius,
Vista 64 is a different beast in where it stores many of the files related to 32-bit applications. This is because it has to support both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers, system files, etc. If you expect a file to be in System32 normally, you might expect a 64-bit Windows O/S to have a System64 directory, but no, that's not the case. System32 remains the repository for 64-bit system files, while SysWOW64 (Windows '32' on Windows 64) is the folder for 32-bit system files.
As such, you may find files you're looking for are located in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SPOOL\DRIVERS\COLOR, but I'll add that most of my color profiles remain in the coresponding System32 folder. That may be my fault, as I may have simply copied them over from my Windows XP partition (dual-boot system) to what I thought to be the proper location. Meanwhie, in the SysWOW64 lcation, all the ICC profiles added by the installation of Photoshop have their usual names, but with "_adbNEW" appended to them, perhaps distinguishing them from the files I had copied into the System32 location. Which ones are being used? I'm not sure, as I'm booted into XP at the moment so I cannot check very quickly.

Daryl

Daryl,
You are correct. Many thanks.
The missing drivers are indeed in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SPOOL\DRIVERS\COLOR. Adobe please take note. a. This question will almost certainly arise again. b. A Search for Drivers or Color does not find this folder, for some reason.
I have made copies of the drivers I need and placed them in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color.
I presume that there is nothing I have to change about them? e.g. name etc.?
Thanks again.

Adobe please take note
Adobe provides the floor, but they don't dance here
Top of every page says USER TO USER

"Adobe provides the floor, but they don't dance here

Fair point.
However, since we are moving inexorably towards the wide use of 64bit, such questions and answers should at least end up in Frequently Asked Questions, because they're going to come up again and again.
That way, Adobe need not trouble themselves with them any further.

Sorted.
Just for the record, the problem lay with the .icc files that were listed in the Drivers/Color folders as Type: _adbnew. Adobe RGB 1998 was one of these.
I have no idea what this type of file is and I have no idea how they came to be listed as of this type (some quirk in Vista 64bit?) instead of as Type: .icc.
Anyway, downloading and installing a fresh set of profiles from here>

....did the trick.
I could also, of course, have changed the file Type status of the problem files.
