I have been sent a pdf that I would like to colorize from black type to some shade of red. I have opened a new document, and see the black type on a checkered background. (I did not set the type myself in PSE3)

Can someone tell me how to do this? Thanks!

David,

When you open the layers palette is still a text layer?

If so then all you need to do is double click the layer thumbnail in the layers palette then at the top of the screen you will see a black box … double click on it and the text colour picker will come up.

It the text has been rasterised then control click the layer thumbnail in the layers palette, select a colour using the colour picker(the one in the tool box) and fill the letters using edit>fill or simply use the paint bucket.
