Hi guys, is there any way to realistically achieve a colour change when the object is a black jacket and I want to make it yellow? Am not getting a good result using the Image Adjustment/Change Color probably because I am trying to go from a dark to light colour.

Grateful for advice.

use a hue sat adjustment layer. select the jacket. check the "colorize" box. use the lightness slider to lighten it up (as you’ve found, it’s tough to mess with the all black) then adjust the hue and saturation sliders to get the color you want.

You can duplicate the image, convert to CMYK, go into the channels and make the jacket as dark as possible in the Y channel while making it as light as possible in the others (to the point of nearly rendering those channels as pure white if need be. This will really screw up the colors all around but it will produce a yellow jacket. It will take some experimentation to get even remotely close to what you want, but it can be done if you have a good working relationship with Photoshop’s tools.

Easiest way to get a yellow jacket is outdoors by some flowers. 🙂
