No benefits? What do you call vacation, holidays, and 401K? Earning $50,000 a year ain’t too bad. You should take the job (yeah, I now you’re pretending it ain’t you) at $40,000 and tell them to throw in medical. Sounds like a great job to me.
If you prove your worth, you can up the vacation to two weeks, maybe three if one is a "working vacation". Web designers don’t have to be on site to code and upload a web page.

I have a friend who is being offered a full time position as a web designer. She is currently a temp getting paid $32.00 an hour. In her position she creates online flash animations and design, as well as web design in Dreamweaver. She is creating original cartoon characters, and the company gets to keep the rights. She is also coming up with the themes and all the creative ideas that will go on the web. She will be learning more as time goes on, like some back end programming, and more scripting. She will be responsible for all the elements that go online. She will be creating several websites for this company, and maybe e-cards and games.
However, she will NOT be excepting the company benefits, since she already is covered. She will have to wait a year for a 401k plan to kick. And the company will only match up to 3% of what she puts into it. She will only get one week vacation, two sick days, and six holiday days.
Given all this information, how much salary do you think my friend should accept if she is hired full time. I remind you, she will not be excepting medical benefits! How much does the average medical coverage cost per year?
This person has been out of a full time job for three YEARS!!! Sure, she had a few small freelance gigs here and there, but nothing that kept steady income.
The company said the highest they would go was $50,000 a year. I think that is really bad considering she won’t be getting any benefits.
