have a graphic i made a few years ago with a globe that has text wrapped around it so it looks like it is 3-d, spinning around the globe. i thought i used the 3-d filter to do this but i can't seem to get it to work and i need to re-create the image. what is the best way to get this effect, and why doesn't the 3d tool seem to work? i create a cylinder or sphere around the text in the 3-d dialog box but when i click okay nothing seems to happen.
any ideas?
thanks!!

I would say try filter -> distort -> sphereize....

tried that but it's too hard to get it right, it distorts it a lot... any other ideas?

Erica,
Ideally you would use a 3D application to create such an image
#4
Dedicated 3D application.
Seriously, for the control you're after this is the smartest solution.

Try the 3D transform filter tutorial at TeamPhotoshop.com. They wrap text around a sphere with no problem.

Here is My Usage
Create/Have a sphere. E.g. Use the circular gradient tool to put a sphere looking circle on the canvas. Then on another layer, put the text.. Make sure the boundaries of the text are inside the sphere.
Now apply the spherise filter to make the text speherical.
Not select the text layer and apply the 3D filter. In the filter put a sphere around the text, and then rotate that spehere to e.g. another angle. OK the filter..
The result will be text on the side of a sphere.... easy ?.
