If I have a ICC colorspace tagged RGB colour image and select a single channel (R,G or B) and then select Mode -> Grayscale I’m asked if I want to "Discard other channels?" to which I answer "yes".
The image should then be a grayscale image, right? Not quite… If I save the image it still embeds the original RGB colorspace tag (sRgb, Adobe RGB, or whatever..).
When I later go to reopen the image I’m informed that "The embedded ICC profile cannot be used because the ICC profile is invalid. Ignoring the profile."
If, on the other hand, I delete the 2 unused colour channels before selecting Mode -> Grayscale the file is then recognized as being a grayscale image. when I proceed to save it and the appropriate Grayscale profile is embedded.
Why would this be?
Thanks
