I am new to Photoshop Elements 2.0 (for windows) and am trying to use the program to assemble a portfolio. I recently attended a seminar on desktop publishing where I was told to convert any RGB files to CMYK color. Unfortunately I cannot figure out how to do this in Elements and cannot find any information in the help section regarding how to go about doing this. Any help would be grealy appreciated.
Thank you!

Elements does not support CMYK. There are some addons that give an approximation, but those don’t give you exactly the same CMYK capabilities as full Photoshop. Do a little more research and see if it’s absolutely necessary that you convert to CMYK; depending on the use, there might be other options.

RGB to CMYK conversion is something for skilled lithographers. Even many lithographers have problems to do a good conversion as both are quite different kinds of colour space.

FWIW:
You only need to worry about CMYK if … and only if … your end product is going to be printed on a printing press. For a portfolio, RGB is really preferred.

The tools provided in Richard Lynch’s superb book The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements include a set of CMYK conversion tools, but for anything but very occasional use, you need full Photoshop.

And, BTW, I am decidedly not a "skilled lithographer" and I do CMYK conversions in Photoshop all the time.

Eva,

If you want more information on conversion to CMYK then I found a thread to do with recommended books on the subject. Its only a couple of months old so it should still be up to date.

Maybe Stu could let us know if he found either of the suggested books useful.

I found Kieran’s book extremely useful. I was unable to locate a copy of the other book that dealt with a reasonably current version of Photoshop (Kieran’s is on PS 7 but everything he has works in CS too).
