Stupid CF Card Question

Now that I’m shooting RAW most of the time I need larger CF cards, but I’m finding that the 512 and up Lexar cards (usually the best bargain locally) don’t come with the little plastic cases to store them in.

I guess they are figuring that with a card that big it will stay in the camera, but I can fill a 512 card in much less than an hour, so if that’s it, they’re wrong.

Does anyone know of a source for those nifty little cases? I’ve been reduced to letting the 256MB cards ride around loose in the pocket of my case and I don’t like doing that.

Barbara,

In my local camera shop they had for sale a plastic case that holds four cards … maybe you can find something similar.

I bought a card case to hold 4 cards. This way I carry 2.5 Gb and 512 Mb in the camera. Its colour is an awfully bright yellow,; this way I never have to search it; it hurts ones eye.

Hi Barbara,

I found the following sites that may have stuff of interest:

<http://www.meritline.com/mimecocacapr.html>

<http://www.xpcgear.com/flashholder.html>

<http://www.data-nation.com/index.asp?redirect=battcase.asp>

I went through this trying to find little cases for batteries. Wound up with a couple of freebies when I ordered 2200mAh NiMH AA’s from an outfit on-line.

Hey Barbara. I just grabbed a large mouth plastic pill vial from the trash and use it to store a couple of cards and a spare battery. It’s light and the top is virtually waterproof. I’m sure your pharmicist would give you one if you asked.

I use Lowepro Memory card wallets they do sell about 6 different kinds. Some are suitable for video some for still with batteries and others just for cards. They Velcro onto a belt, purse, camera bag what ever making them very convenient but not lay them down as they are not a colourful as the ones Leen is talking about

Now back to the bit about filling a 512 card in an hour how many images are you taking isn’t that one a minute. My god you would hate shooting with me as a 512 last me a days at raw 47 shots. I don’t think I have shot a total of 500 images in the month and a half I have had my hateful Nikon and at least half were for my Photo of the Day. I guess different strokes for different folks as the pool player said.

Grant, I average 42 shots in RAW per 512 card. Sometimes that takes a long time, but if I use the autobracket feature so that I’m shooting 3 of every exposure it doesn’t take much.

Barbara,

Here’s another source. I use them all the time for video, photographic and home theater equipment and they are very reliable. (B&H Photovideo)

Also, I rarely take the time to stop and delete the duds as I shoot, unless it’s something like pressing the shutter accidentally with the camera pointing at the ground.

Bob, thanks, I’ll check out what B&H has. I agree, they are good people to deal with.

Just FYI your link sends me to a blurb about a history of Freemasonry.

Barbara,

So much for Tinyurl. First time I tried it and maybe the last. If this wraps just cut and paste.

Barbara,
I use a couple of the hard cases that hold 4 flash cards each, and they work GREAT. For the money, it is really the best protection you can get for themm in my opinion.
