help changing from black to 293 blue

Hi all,

I have a .pdf file that is in black and I am trying to change the color to pms 293 blue (cmyk). What I can do is open the file in photoshop (CS2). What I get when I open the file up is a checkerboard with the type. I have tried to change the color using the paint bucket, but to no avail. What am I doing wrong, or can you even change the color with a .pdf file? I am not that familiar with photoshop as I haven't used it much. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Are you trying to change the colour of the type?
If so,how are you making your selection? select>color range would do it, but it would also select any other blacks as well. This would put the marching ants arouind all the characters, allowing you to paint over the selections with the colour of your choice. Hue/Sat wouldn't work as you are changing from black.
The checker board sounds like it's the transparent background.

I just tried your suggestion and what happens is that the whole page turns to blue. It also did that when I tried the wand tool too. I think the checkerboard might have something to do with it but am not sure. Could I send it to you to see if you can do anything with it? This particular file was provided electronically. I even tried to scan it in the computer and use the scan, but I got the same results. Maybe I am just doing something wrong....

If it's a PDF, Pitstop willconvert the type to a PMS color. If it's a PDF from Photoshop, many times when you reopen them in Photoshop it brings in the original layers in the Photoshop file and you can actually work on the type on a layer if you have the correct fonts loaded. If you would like I would be happy to convert them for you.

Thanks for the info, the files opened as rasterised, very pixelated (therefore uneditable as text)72 ppi scans in PDF format on one layer. They consisted of a few lines of text, one also had two logos .

I increased the resolution to 600 ppi to reduce the pixelation. Changed the file mode to CMYK
Used Select>Color Range to select the text.
Then filled the text with the PMS colour with ctrl+backspace.

It would have been possible to copy and paste the text i(editable) into PS from Acrobat but that would left the problem with logos.
