I’m working on some activities for a birthday party. I want to create a "coloring book" type line art of the birthday boy’s photo in Photoshop. Does anyone have any good tips or tricks on how to do this or know the best place for some info. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Everything depends on the quality of your photo.

Try this:
1. Duplicate your image layer.
2. Desaturate the duplicate (command-shift-U).
3. Apply Filter>Sylize>Find Edges
4. Create a Threshold adjustment layer and fiddle with the dialog’s slider to get the cleanest possible lines.

And oh yes… everything depends on the tonal quality of your photo.

Here’s another way which works very well on some images:

Filter>Artistic>Cutout. Then Filter>Artistic>Poster Edges. Then convert the image to CMYK. With the Magic Wand, low tolerance, uncheck Contiguous and click on the black line. Command-Shift-I to Inverse and fill that selection with white.

You’ll have to tinker with the Cutout and Poster Edges settings a bit to get the best look for your particular image.
