Digital color is defined by numbers.

An embedded profile tells a color management system (CMS) what those numbers represent, HOW to display a specific red, for example…

Without an embedded profile (and a functioning CMS) the chances of reproducing that specific red on another device, like a printer or another monitor, are next to impossible…
