Install CS3 to Win 7

Spoke with the 'off-shore' people at adobe and was told that my account gets two activations (everybody does) and confirmed serial nos of both CS3 (upgrade) and the original CS.
I now have a new Win 7 64bit - was told that I 'had to' first install CS and then CS3. Does this make sense? Why garbage up with the old since it is all verified as legit? The people sound so 'shaky' to be polite.

When you install your upgrade of CS3 the installation will ask your for the serial number of a prior version of Photoshop back to PS7. You do not need to have the earlier version installed.
If your CS3 number is acceptable it will activate when you first start CS3. CS3 runs normally on Win 7-64 bit, at least my copy does and I survived the deactivation/reactivation quagmire, this time: I have had to call the Indians with American Jobs more than once to reactivate my totally valid software. For the insane prices Adobe gets they could at least keep jobs in America but they are the good citizens that they are.
This hacks me off no end as it is not that difficult to obtain a fake activation key, proving once again that activation schemes generally only punish paying customers.
