I am using Photoshop predominantly for photo processing and touch-ups at a fairly high level. (as I know it at least)

I use two systems as follows:

1: P4, 30.6 mHz, 1gig RDRAM, 1 internal 320G IDE, 1 external USB 500G; WIN XP Home – ATI RAEDON PRO 9700 graphics card

2: Core Duo 3mHz, 2G SDRAM, 1 320G Internal IDE; WIN XP Pro X64 INTEL Graphics Accelerator graphics.

I generally create my photos from RAW files opening in Photoshop at 4096×6144, 300 dpi. This will send a file (Yes to SmartObjects) of about 144 meg initially.

I generally use a duplicate touch-up layer, a overlay burn&Dodge layer and then a duplicate Skin&Pores layer which will build out a file of just shy of 500 Megs.

Here is where I need some advise.

As we should all do, I try to save frequently as I work. On either computer the save process is painfully slow. The older single processor saves allow doe drink, restroom, walk the dog breaks…. the newer are a lot faster but, as we all do I guess, I get impatient with the "dead" times.

I could use any advise for speeding up my saves. I am somewhat familiar with SANS and some of the hard drive technologies so please feel free to get techie with me. If I do not undserstand there is always Whatis.com right?

Thanks in advance.
