I am using Photoshop CS with windows 2000 pro and would like some suggestions on calibrating a monitor. My photos print a lot lighter than what I see on the monitor and lack the amount of blue in the color that I see on my monitor. I have never had this lightness before and I am using a Canon i960 printer that is brand new. I guess my first question would be should I use Adobe Gamma or is there a sight or software that one would recommend that I use? Thanks

start with adobe gamma and see what you get. most (?) of us use it and get good results.

There’s a tutorial and a little advice on Adobe Gamma at <http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps7-colour/ps7_2.htm> . Remember to "squint" at the right time and you should do all right.

You are always better off with a calibration device, like one from Macbeth, or ColorVision. "Squinting" to obtain precision is rather crude, IMO. The last time I saw a device for such measurenets was the SEI photometer, which used the extinguishment method of matching the brightness of a source to the reference. That was back in the early paet of the 20th century, I believe!

I have the SEI, and never could get it to repeat very well.

My eyes are from the early part of the 20th century and they don’t repeat very well , either. <G>
I’m happy enough with the Monaco EZcolor solution.
