making a picture gradiently opaque

I hope that this makes sense. I have a picture that I woud like to overlay and make the top part less opaque and gradually more opaque as it moves towards the bottom of the picture. It is probably so simple yet I can seem to figure it out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Add a Layer Mask to the image and make a black to white gradient on the mask, going from the bottom up.
