A Solution to Black Thumbnails

This is what worked for me:

1. Rename C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Adobe\Shell\psicon.dll something else.

2. Download psicon.dll from
http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files.php/dllfiles/P/psi con.dll/download.html

3. Save it to (or move it to) C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Adobe\Shell

4. Restart your computer

All future psd files will have thumbnails that are visible in Windows Explorer.

Re-saving black thumbnail PSD's will be fixed by this.

Thanks for everyone's help.

nb. only works if you have had a previous version of Photoshop installed.
