Sequentially Numbering a series of pictures.

A few years ago, I created a folder of pictures taken with several different cameras. I replaced the various camera notations by a simple 1, 2, 3…….notation. But I forgot how I did it.
(I don’t want to use the RENAME command to do this for 100+ images) I can’t remember whether I did it in PS 7 or with Windows Explorer. I know it’s simple but I’ll be darned if I can remember how. You will get this way some day too. 🙂
Can someone help me with this?

You can change precise sections of the filename.

I Googled on the problem and it turns out that Windows Xp can do it straightaway.
Start > My Pictures > Edit> > Select All > Rt.Click First Pic. > Rename. Bob

don’t do it via windows rename

if you plan to use them on the web it adds parentheses to all the numbers & images won’t upload with those characters.

it also makes your first image the last one thereby ruining the order of images

Bridge and PS have better options fro renaming to your own specifics

In this instance I didn’t plan to put the pics on a website. But thanks for that tip.

In my case, it left the first image first but it did not name it IMAGE (1), it just named it IMAGE. So even though I renamed 80 images, only 79 had a number assigned to them.

OK I don’t have that version on anymore
I think it may be under FILE>AUTOMATE> BATCH

open the bottom portion of the dialog to select your naming preferences you have to say rename in same folder or copy
