I finally got a pattern to reverse. You can see it here:

Notice how sometimes the darkest regions sometimes seem to be on top and at other times they appear to be on bottom. You have to look pretty hard to get them to flip but once they do it is hard to get them to flip back. Now can someone explain why this happens?
