A4 Height and Width

Hi,

How many centimeters or inches is the A4 format in width and height ?

Can I tell photoshop to create a canvas of A4 size ?

Also... how many pixels should I use for width and height per centimeter to get ok results but not to big filesize...

So what would be reasonable ?

If I remember correctly, A4 is 210 cm X 297 cm and this will be about 1.08GB large at 200ppi. I just opened one up in PSCS. If you have to use 300ppi are larger then the image will be larger of course.

Not like that. Photoshop thinks in pixels, not inches or centimeters. So you'd also have to tell Photoshop how many pixels per inch you want to use. If you choose "Letter", you come close. Before hitting OK you can change the values to get A4 (at 300 dpi).

That depends on what you'd call "ok results". For printing many people consider 150 ppi still "ok result" but you may have a different opinion.

If I am resizing a photograph, I use 29 or 19cms (according to aspect ratio), then click 'Scale to Fit Media' in the 'Print With Preview' dialogue box.

When I specify pixels per centimeter... or pixels per inch I think in terms of two dimensions ?

So for example:

10x10 = 100 pixels per inch...

so 150... is like 12.2 ?

and 300 is 17.3 ??

Or maybe 300 is

10 width and 30 height ?

Er, my version of PS 7 has this as an option in the Preset seizes of the New File dialogue box.

Is this not provided in some versions?

Hmm! The paper size is correct (though you may have to accept a slightly smaller printable area when borderless printing is not an option). The file size, however is 11Mb for a resolution of 200ppi, i.e. in simple numbers 11 x 200 x 8 x 200 x 3.

Yes, PCCS has this option when you click on File>New. That brings up a 24+MB file. I don't think that is too big for most newer computers.

No. 10x10 pixels is 100 pixels, period. Pixels per inch only describes how big the pixels will be printed. It has nothing to do with the file size as such. In other words, you can have a 10 x 10 pixels file that is 300 dpi, or 300,000 dpi or a zillion dpi. They will all be the same size, namelijk 10 x 10 pixels (or 300 bytes because 1 pixel is 3 bytes).

You messed up the units. A4 is 21.0 cm x 29.7 cm - your numbers are for mm. The memory usage at 200dpi is only 12MB.

The same values you'd use for DPI divided by 2.54.

200dpi for average cheap photoprint quality, 300 dpi for the perfect photo and 400 dpi if you want to test you printer quality.

maybe. i use to create titles for printed magazines. so i need to work on a4+ w/ 120 lpc (about 304 dpi)in cmyk mode + colour separations. filesize is mostly 200+ mb but it works. i mean photoshop is not made for pimps! or 386 pcs.
