Hello~

First, My apologies, because I have posted this message in more then one newsgroup. I know, bad me, but please forgive me.

Second, the reason for my post; I am looking for a work of art, and I hope you, the readers of the photoshop newsgroups, can help me. Here’s the thing…

I have just started my own web site. It’s lame, it has no content, it serves no purpose, but it is mine and I am playing around with it. The site is www.LongBoxes.com. (and no, the point of this post is not to advirtise my site, because my site has nothing to do with photoshop or art.)

Now, I do not have a great eye for design, nor do I have photoshop skills. But, I want a really great logo for my site. A friend recomended I use photoshop to create such a logo, but liek I said, no skills, thus I have come here looking for help.

Right now, if you visit the site, all you’ll see (other then how lame the site is) is a logo that is just really large Comic Sans font. Not very exciting.

I am tossing it out here, to all of you photshop masters and artists, a challenge. Who can create the greatest logo for my site, and claim their proper title of Photoshop Artistic Master!!! (he says with great fanfair and overacting)

(I’d call it a contest, but really, I have nothing to offer other then my thanks, and the promise that I will mention you and/or link to you from my page.)

So, what do you think? Feel up to the challenge?

Please submit your works of art to my email address:

And yes, you do not have to use photoshop if you do not want to, any tools you may choose will be fine by me.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I thank you for your time and help.

Hello~

No, I apologize, I did not realize that there was a going rate for such things. I wasn’t looking for a profesional, I was just hoping for someone out there who had the skills , a little free time, and who liked to doodle. I honestly didnt mean to insult anyone.

That said, I am happy to report I have already gotten a few "submissions". Some good ones too! There’s one I really like, and I think I’m going to use it. Now, i wish I had something to send to the guy, other then my thanks and the promice of a link!

Anyway, I dont know how long I’m going to let this "contest" run, but theres still time. If your just scribbling, and you want to "compete", let me know!

Thanks to everyone for their help!

Actually, the going rate for a professionally designed logo varies from a few thousand dollars to $100,000 or more.

We are talking about real world prices, all graphic people now ‘have’ to consider the global market or much of their overpriced work end up being done in India for fraction of its USA/European competition. On skill these guys have all the talents we have but they can work cheap.

Logo design includes a large package of service, not just drawing up some image. For example, legal research regarding copyrights and trademarks can soak up thousands of dollars. Several years ago a major company started using a ‘logo’, and it turns out almost exactly the same redition, done in-house, had already been in use by a public broadcasting company for years. The company got into deep trouble, and of course the "graphics experts" were sued. Research is expensive and difficult!

Then there are the myriad of mechanical things that amateurs ignore, for example application of the ‘logo’ in different circumstances. One comes to mind from an undergraduate design class. Our instructor was an industry (read: mature) designer and had worked on a Dow Corporation signature. After several versions had gone through the first pass for acceptance, they printed the image/logo on shipping boxes and stacked them in various ways to see how it looked in real life. Then they threw the boxes about and looked again. SURPRISE! when turned up-side-down the image gave the most distinct reading impression of "MOP". Toss that version and on with the next.

Actually, one of those "high end logo design specialists" that can command those kinds of dollars regularly posts in the graphics forum run by Sue Chastain on About.com.

Sorry, I haven’t "hung out" there in three or four years … and I cannot remember his name. However I do remember that he lives in the Pacific Northwest part of the USA (Oregon or Washington).

I would think that branch of services would fall under copyright and/or trademark attorney.

So what did I say? I said it would cost thousands of dollars. It’s a "package".
