I am using PS6.0 on a Win2k machine with an Athlon 1.4Ghz and 1.5GB RAM.

When I have text selected for editing, the CPU usage of Photoshop goes to 100% and stays there. This seems unreasonable considering the fairly powerful CPU. Worse, my system tends to lock up (overheat) when the usage is maxed out for more than a few minutes, so it’s almost impossible for to do any text formatting etc.

Any suggestions?

Increase the cooling on the CPU, AMDs are notorious for
running rather warm. If your system’s really overheating addressed that FIRST before you lose it. Then worry
about the text tool.
