Photoshop WOW Books

Has anyone ever used or read any of the Photoshop WOW books? I was given a book in this series covering Photoshop 6 and wasn't sure how much use it would be in doing and/or learning things about AP 7, the version I currently have and plan to keep unless I see some kind of improvement in 8 that I don't otherwise have.

So, back to the book. Any good? Worth the read??

Don't know about the specific book, but the Painter WOW book was really good and people often comment that the WOW series (they do an Illustrator one as well) is generally good.

I've had the WOW series from PS3 - PS6 and have enjoyed them greatly. They have not been re-hashes of the manuals (back when there really were manuals), but interesting tid-bits that applied to the real world of both photography and design. I have not kept up to date with the series, but do recommend them, based on past experience. Now, PS6->7 is quite a jump in program, while 7->8 is not quite such a leap. There will be a lot of useful info from the 6 book, for 7, but much will not work as it would have in 6. The concepts, however, are usually very sound, and that is the strength, provided that the reader interpolates versions.

PS now you've got me thinking that I need to get the CS (8) book soon!

I have multiple copies for Illustrator per version...highly recommend them.

I end up confused coz the pitch n pace doesn't seem to gel yet I find online tutorials, websites and PDFs fantastic

I guess I am gonna have to get a book before long

i've got WOW version 4, 6 and 7. All excellent and i have used them fairly often, learned a great deal from all of them. Plus, 6 and 7 come with a CD full of excellent actions and styles.

Hey Hunt

You've got me thinking now (always a painful process?)

Idea: new product or extension to existing one eg Acrobat Reader

Basis: to cater for diverse online tutorials

Method: Reader (or some other program but Reader's popularity blends itself to the application) retains links to downloaded materials wherever they are stored on the drive be they PDFs, DOCs or wnything that has permission to be downloaded.

Stores links to tutorials that may not be downloaded and allows such links to be organised to the end users satisfaction and criteria

Application: eg Digital camera - I can download & arrange links to tutorials by make model topic or theme

I mention it here in the rare chance that someone at Adobe may pop over to have a read in this ng

I suppose it is the on;line/offline equivalent of a follscap loose leaf folder know what I mean?

I have v6 and v7 and other than a few sidebars explaining diffs/adds of PS7 they are the same book. Same examples, processes, etc. Unless the CS book is vastly different I would save the money and buy the 6 book (cheaper on ebay or half.com).

I want - nay demand more than this

I want - nay demand - that Adobe Acrobat Reader will give me the opportunity to link offline and online tutorials

This is partly due to the frugality I emit at "Eeek! 300 pages when I only want these 10?"

OK - on a more serious note:
Trad publication operate at a discrete level - I buy a book. Not half a book or more than a book but just a book

I'd like to challenge that trad approach and posit an e-book approach.

In this posited e-book approach I should be able to download the 10 pages I want from one e-ok (full color PDFs) with 20 or so pages from another e-book and compile them (more accurately compile the online and offline links) into a structure that makes sense to me.
