Saving as 8 bit bmp

I have a 16 bit bmp, which I need to save it 8bit bmp. When I save, the 8bit option is grayed out.

Convert to 8-bit before you save.

BUT HOW??

Change the image mode to indexed color.

But when I change back from Index mode to RGB Mode, it turns to Black and White

PS version? I have 7. Is the original RGB?
Go to IMAGE > MODE > 8bit. It probably has got a tick in front of 16bit now. Rob

You cannot save a 16-bit/channel as BMP at all....

Mode>Indexed colour>256 colours>Local Selective.

DO NOT CHANGE BACK TO RGB MODE

Save As BMP>8bit
