Photoshop CS Healing Brush Error

472 views6 repliesLast post: 8/9/2004
I upgraded from 7.0 to CS. Now, every time I use the Healing Brush in CS I get a message that says,

"Could not complete your request because of a program error."

Once I get the error, I can continue to use every other tool without error. If I use the Healing Brush I get the error message again.

The real gotcha is that I can't SAVE my work because I get the same error when I try to Save or Save as.

I have completely uninstalled (where I had to reactivate) Photoshop and reinstalled it two times.

Anyone know what might be happening?

The first thing (usually before an uninstall/reinstall) is to trash the PS prefs files. They should be in your Documents&Settings>User Name>Applications>Adobe>Photoshop>8.0>Adobe Photoshop CS Settings (whew!) folder in WinXP (please don't say you are on MAC, as I haven't a clue). When you start PS CS, you will need to do Edit>Preferences for any changes back to where you want things (again, on MAC, this is different). Then, try the Healing Brush again, and let's all hope for the best. For various reasons the perfs file(s) can become corrupted and this causes all sorts of error messages. Unfortunately, I don't have a second option, should this one prove invalid. Also, most uninstall/reinstall operations do not purge and replace this/these file(s).

Thanks for the info.

One quick fix that I discovered is this:

If I switch to the Patch tool and use it (just any patch) and then return to the Healing Brush, everything is working again. The Healing brush works and I can save my work.

I have a project to finish tonight, but I'll try deleting the Prefs files tomorrow morning. I'll let you know what happens.

OK, my temporary "solution" didn't work so I deleted all of the Prefs Files, uninstalled, and reinstalled. I still get the error and I still can't save my work when it happens.

I checked my computer for viruses and didn't find anything.

I can't imagine what's going on. Any other suggestions?

Are you on a Mac/10.3 or greater by chance?

Try this:

In CS, go to Windows/Brushes/Brush Preset and see if either Shape Dynamics or Other Dynamics is checked. If they are, uncheck them. Then try the Healing Brush and see if the same error appears.

Unfortunately, I cannot. Let me know if you find any additional problems, or errors, as that might shed more light on the situation.

Make sure you have the MP Support update from Adobe installed. (it fixes 2 memory corrupting bugs)
