Hi,

is anyone around here about to gather experiences using Adobe Photoshop_v7 (Windows version) from within Linux, using WINE?

If so, I’d be very interested in reading what you can share. Are all of Photoshops Features supported?
and
How fast is it – when compared to a Win installation on the very same machine?

(Only recently, the commercial software WINE was released in versions that makes this possible. WINE makes executable code which was written and compiled for Windows32 executable from within Linux.

other Win32 software that is said to be usable from within Linux is e.g. most of Office XP and a number of games.)

Regards,
Fred

Wine, otherwise known as whine <g>, will enable you to do this. Just been having an interesting conversation about it on another newsgroup. it’s fine if your files aren’t too big and your operations aren’t too complex. Otherwise you’ll find out why it;’s Otherwise known as whine. 😉

Hi Hecate,
thank you for your response.

What is the name of the newsgroup in which you have been discussing how Photoshop runs in Linux, using WINE?

Thanks, Fred

BTW: This is crossposted, and in my first posting I forgot to decide upon a group to set a followup-to to. This I have done now; I’ve set a Followup-To: alt.graphics.photoshop.

Probably not one you;’d think of or want to join unless you like discussions of an adult nature 😉

The thread finished a couple of weeks ago anyway. The general conclusion was that yes it works but it has a problem with large files because of memory usage.

How large are we talking about?

I’m running photoshop7 through wine on Suse Linux 9.0 and have worked with 10meg+ files with no slowdown..

…. sure I do, especially practices. Practices "of an adult nature" and the quest for occasions is what makes the world go round. Isn’t it that way? All about orgasms.

I can’t remember in which thread it started. it may have been called wine, but it was in alt.sex.stories.d (for discussion). Basically, everything gets discussed, usually except sex stories 😉 It’s mainly a writers group but has a lot of computer literate people in it. You could try googling for wine and see what happens. Sorry i can’t be more specific, all I remembered was what we’d discussed. 🙂

But my files are from 38 to 127 Mb. I record and scan in TIFF exclusively.
