layer mask from selection

Is there any way to load a selection to use it as a layer mask? Thanks

Yes. Hit that broken line circle icon at the bottom of the Layers Palette to make a LM on the layer. If the wrong thing is masked invert it with Ctrl-I (Command-I on Mac).
