PSE 5.0: import of png files ?

Hi group,

I have created a collage of round about 100 pictures in a program called shape collage.

The result is fine but the images are placed at random positions which is also fine for most of them but some need adjustment afterwards.

I was told to save the collage as a png file and do the fine tuning in Photoshop.

Now my question:
can I do this in Photoshop Elements 5.0? I haven't even seen the functionality of opening a png file, or import it.
And even if I could import png, can PSE treat 100 layers?

Thanks in avance for any advice.

Best regards,
Wolfgang

Sorry, I made a mistake: it is psd-file rather than png.

It works with psd files but only for a small number of pictures/layers

With my 100 pictures it says, working space too small and stops the import.

My question: what is the maximum number of layers PSE can handle?

Thank in advance for any help.

Rgards,
Wolfgang
