I recently bought a digital camera, a Sony DSC-W350, but I ‘ve found there’s a very strange problem with it when I try to use Photoshop (I use Photoshop 6). Most images open OK, but some don’t, and I get one of two messages: either ‘could not open because the file is corrupted’ or ‘could not open because it is not a valid Photoshop document’.
The way I get the images to my computer is via Sony’s own program, called PMB, which came with the camera. I plug the camera into a USB port, the program says it’s ‘analyzing’ the files, and they wind up as thumbnails in a calendar.
I then have to hunt through my computer to where the actual images are (as jpegs with serial numbers) in order to open them with Photoshop. as I say, most open OK, but quite a sizeable minority won’t, and I get one of those two messages coming up.
These same images seem perfectly OK in the PMB program, but that doesn’t do me much good, as I need to edit almost all my images with Photoshop.
I’ve tried three separate memory cards in this camera, all of which I’ve used with a different camera with no problems at all. I’ve also scanned my computer for viruses. And nearly every image I’ve ever used with Photoshop has opened without problems.
This is a total mystery to me – can anyone suggest what’s going on?
I really can’t
