PS CS4 Extended - crash when workin with 3D layers in Windows 7

OK, I know Windows 7 is not officially supported, but that's the point of software testing - to find bugs.

OS: Windows 7 32bit, build 7057.
PS: CS4 Extended 32bit, ver. 11.0.1
GPU: disabled

Problem: Any operation from the "3D" menu results in Photoshop crashing. (Module was C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins\3D Engines\Photoshop3DEngine.8BI)

If anyone know of a solution/workaround, please let me know.

Build 7057 is not a official release by MS. It is a "leaked" build found on all sorts of bittorrent websites. But you already know that.
Since your a software tester you need to report this problem to MS.

I solved it by running the AllowOldGPUS_OFF registry option from Adobe. It's interesting since the Use GPU option was disabled in Preferences anyway.

Just for the record, my Windows 7 is not leaked from some torrent site. If I was using such thing, I wouldn't have mentioned the 7057 build.

Then are you sure that you're allowed to tell us what build you're using? because closed beta's tend to have NDA's attached to them

- card was Intel GMA X4500, driver version 7.15.10.1652, driver date 06-Feb-09. - unsupported card, I activated GPU support via AllowOldGPUS_ON; tested and then disabled GPU via Preferences, unchecking "Enable openGL drawing", I thought it was enough to disable GPU usage everywhere.
- it most likely is not OS-dependent.
- it's also rather low-priority, a warning in the tech note about GPU support would suffice.

What machine is that? Yes, using the AllowGPUS_ON key might result in crashing. I thought it was noted already but check up on that.

Yes you can, Microsoft releases details about versions of their public betas to the public, E.G. Build 7000, which regardless of where it was downloaded from is a legal download.
