When I open the crop tool I only get crop handles on the four corners of the crop area. The crop handles at the midpoints do not appear. Can anyone tell me how I can solve this? (I get only 4 handles, not 8 handles.)

Why do you need more than the four corners?

You have probably specified dimensions so the Crop Tool is only giving you 4 handles to let you know it is preserving the proportions you specified.

Use the Clear button on the Crop Tool option bar to clear out the dimensions and the resolution. Then it will give you 8 handles again and let you do a free-form crop.

Hope that helps you, err, handle the situation. 🙂

Thanks Dennis. I’ll give it a try.

(Hi Donald. The documentation I have on CS4 shows that you should have 8 handles. I have found them handy in other applications for moving one side of the ‘window’ in or out. The corner handles move on the diagonal.)

Did you try the answer from Dennis?

That’s how it works.

Thanks Dennis. (So that’s what the clear button is for!)
