when i create a path in cs4 and then select the path, it automatically selects the inverse. it just started doing this randomly, how do i fix this.

I'm not clear as to what you are trying to say. Do you really mean vector paths or are you perhaps mistakenly referring to selections? and if it's really paths, how are they selected and are there multiple of them on the same layer? For selections, you may simply have enabled a different mode on the toolbar (Intersect)...
