Adding Copyright Status to a metadata template

I am using Photoshop CS3 for Windows. I have created a metadata template in Bridge with my contact information and my copyright information, etc. When I created the template the field called Copyright Status was not available but if I open an image and go into File Info by doing Shift-Ctrl-Alt-I the Copyright Status field is available and I can change it from Unknown to Copyrighted. I like this field because it shows the image is Copyrighted (Unknown looks bad and unprofessional) and also when you open the image in PS the © symbol shows at the top of the screen in front of the file name.

Is there a way to create a metadata template where I can have Copyrighted in the Copyright Status field?

Thanks – have a super week!

Maybe this will help.

A while ago I read the excellent book "Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS3" by Bruce Fraser and Jeff Schewe,
in which this problem is described.

The bug is that one can’t apply this flag by adding or creating a metadata template.

However, when you already have a template that suits you (with the exception of this bug), you can edit the template manually, and have it fixed once and for all:

Use a text editor an find the portion that reads as:

<xapRights:UsageTerms>
<rdf:Alt>
<rdf:li xml:lang="x-default">No use without express written permission</rdf:li>
</rdf:Alt>
</xapRights:UsageTerms>

Now after this last end tag, insert:

<xapRights:Marked>True</xapRights:Marked>

This is code, so be very precise.

A half year ago this was a topic in the Prodig list and then I asked Jeff Schewe for permission to reveal this, and he cheerfully agreed.

Hope this helps a bit,

Rob

Go to the Adobe – XMP folder open your template in a text editor. There should be a line something like:
<rdf:Description rdf:about="" xmlns:photoshop="http://ns.adobe.com/photoshop/1.0/" >

amend this line to include the copyright:
<rdf:Description rdf:about="" xmlns:photoshop="http://ns.adobe.com/photoshop/1.0/" xmlns:xmpRights="http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/rights/" xmpRights:Marked="True">

Rob beat me to it, I suppose it depends on what you have included in your template if you have xmlns:xmpRights="http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/rights/" defined in your template go with Robs solution if not use mine.

Rob and Paul – Thanks for your reply.

I just figured out how to do this an easy way –

In File Info either create or edit your metadata template with your copyright information and the Copyright Status set to Copyrighted. Then click on the right facing arrow in the upper right and choose "Save Metadata Template". When you use Bridge to add the metadata template which included your Copyright information the Copyright Status will show Copyrighted because Bridge and File Info share the same template information.

Hope this help others – have a super week!
