Photoshop crashes when i am zoomed in close and working on a project

Sometimes when I am zoomed in close on an object and using a tool Photoshop will crash. Like this morning I was zoomed in on a photo of a saxophone and using the magic eraser to erase the white background and whenever I clicked on the canvas Photoshop would crash. I’m just wondering what is causing this behavior?

I have Photoshop CS on a Windows XP machine.

Maybe it’s just musical instruments! I was working a picture of a guitar today, and experiencing similar behavior when I used the clone or healing brush. CS on XP here too.
