Text not showing - CS2

Photoshop CS2 has suddenly stopped displaying text on images. When I click with the text tool, or create a text box, and type in it, the type will appear in the Layers frame but not on the image (even if it's a new image). It's not a zoom, or size, or font problem, nor is it an opacity issue or layer visibility problem. Any ideas??

Reset the Type tool from the drop-down menu in the Character Palette.

You must've had some screwed up setting there. Resetting the tool puts everything back to default.
