I recently installed CS4 and when I quit Photoshop CS4 I get a "DDE Server… memory could not be ‘read’" error. I’ve looked all over the forums for solutions to this, tried deleting my preferences file, reinstalling CS4, and fiddling with performance options, but nothing seems to make a change. I never had much trouble with CS2 or CS3. This is really annoying.

pointing at a 3rd party plugin folder? install any plugins? copy any plugins from an older version to cs4?

if you’ve already reinstalled photoshop, reinstall updated printer and scanner drivers, if applicable.

It’s a fresh install of the software with no plugins and I have no printers or scanners attached/installed. Flash CS4 and Bridge CS4 seem to work fine.

memory could not be ‘read’"

is a dll conflict error. something you have installed uses a same dll as photoshop uses. and there are more than one version of that dll on your system. it’s kinda hard to figure out what that might be from here though.

DDE Server is an OS component, and I’m not sure how it could get such an error.

I get a similar error with the regular version of Photoshop:

As a first step at troubleshooting, I have removed all non-Photoshop plugins, but this does not help.

Those are not similar errors. They are both crashes, but Bill’s is Photoshop crashing (far from normal), and Rory’s is some OS component crashing.

Chris,

From a programming standpoint, the errors are different, but they are similar in that PSCS4 consistently crashed with the above posted error message on exiting after having loaded an image. I read the Adobe troubleshooting advice and traced the problem to a bad video driver for my old Quadro 2 Pro card. I downloaded the Adobe certified driver and the problem has not recurred.

It helps to RTFM.

I have a similar error but with different address values…see <http://upload.pbase.com/image/108436800>.

As far as I know all my drivers are up to date.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Loren
