photoshop cs3 crashing continuously

Hi! Here's my error message in Photoshop - it's been happening for more than a week - several times a day.

This is a microsoft error message:

Adobe Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm on Win XP Home Edition, HP laptop. I don't think I've installed any new fonts or anything...

any thoughts?

TIA,
Dana

What are you doing when it happens?

If it's random, try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.

<http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1>

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.

This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

I'm usually just doing really simple stuff - paint bucket, editing images, it's very random.

I'll try to fix the preferences and report back.

Thank yOU!! I did look in the FAQ, but didn't find this idea, so thanks.

well ------- crossing fingers ------ that seems to have done the trick... I just searched for the psp file - the ctrl, shift, alt thing while starting did not work for me.

thanks again!!
