Photoshop CS4 conflicts with Digitizer Wintab Driver

I have a Calcomp DrawingBoard III (12”x 12”) digitizer running on Windows XP – Service Pack #3. The digitizer wintab driver conflicts with Photoshop CS4, preventing it from opening. When I start Photoshop it partially opens and then the computer locks up. But, if the computer boots up without the wintab driver loading, Photoshop starts and runs properly.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and know of a solution?

Will there be or is there an adobe fix to this problem?

With such an outdated tablet I wouldn't hold my breath about a fix. I am stunned that you have been able to use it for so long as it is. You had to realize with Calcomp tablets dead that sooner or later things would progress to the point that the tablet would be non-functional. Shame Calcomp tablets had to kick the bucket. I had a 12x12 and loved it, it was as good as Wacom's, but I guess Wacom was better run (the company).

I doubt Adobe can fix bugs in your tablet driver.

Chris is right, you might not think that the problem is the tablet driver since it worked fine in previous versions of Photoshop. However, the driver is the problem or more correctly the lack of driver updates. Adobe has every right to change their program any way they want for good or for bad. Normally, this isn't a lot of trouble you just wait for a driver update from your hardware maker. The problem is that there will never been driver updates. Calcomp is dead and as I said it was only a matter of time before your tablet started dieing as well. If you use a tablet a lot then you should look at one of the Wacom tablets. Otherwise, slowly more and more programs and OSes will get to the point that your tablet will be less and less useful. Shame the Calcomp tablets were nice in their time, but that time is past.
