Want Targa Alpha Channel - "File must be saved as a copy for this selection?" WHAT?

I want to save a targa with an alpha channel, I have one layer and my alpha channel. It simply ghosts out the option to save it with an alpha. If I save it with the "As a Copy" unchecked it still has alpha checked but it is a ghosted check box. And its not coming up with an alpha in my next program I'm using it in. WHY? I dont understand this situation.

What version of Photoshop?

And you either get one alpha channel OR transparency - not both in Targa format.
