I am running XP and cannot set CS4 to be the default file to open my images. When I right click a file, select "open with", and choose CS4, nothing happens. I did not find this problem with CS3 or CS2, both of which I have uninstalled. Any suggestions?

I recommend you search this forum. This seems to hinge on an old registry key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT not being updated. Something to do with PhotoshopImage.90 or so. Sorry, I wasn’t able to dig this up so quickly, but it’s at most 2 weeks old, so you’re sure to find it. Look for "file associations" or something like that.

What happens if you set file associations in Control panel > Folder options > file types?

"Change" and "Browse" to Photoshop.exe in Program files if necessary.

(I think this is what it’s called in xp – the only xp machine I have around has Norwegian xp on it -)

My guess is that removing CS2/3 took the file associations down with them.

it wouldn’t work before I uninstalled CS2&3, either.

Try Folder options anyway. If that doesn’t work, ask Mylenium about that registry thing again 😉

Since it worked with CS2/3, it can’t be a major issue with your xp installation, so I’d try to uninstall/reinstall CS4. Maybe run a registry cleaner in between.

I tried to search as per Mylenium’s suggestion, but nothing came up. He’s German, so he should be up and running by now, and maybe he has something more when he pops in.
