PS CS3, Windows XP Pro, on a new Dell XPS
I've been running PS for months with no problems. Suddenly, and apparently for no reason, it's refusing to open files. Here are the things I've tried: I restored the OS back to a point that I know it was working, completely uninstalled PS, then CS3, and reinstalled the whole suite (after a huge hassle and many hours).
If anyone has any ideas I'd really appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Vikki

Are you using a network printer?
This is a known bug and has been reported many times in the forum.
The solution, weird as it sounds, is to make a generic printer driver your default printer. If you don't have one, download it here:

All part of the fascinating world of Photoshop CS3.

No, my printer is specific to my PC. I had also seen that post before. I wish it had been that simple.
This only seems to be a problem if I try to open a file with the "Open" command. If I click on a file and say open with PS, it will open in PS. So far the program seems to be operating ok for everything else.

When you did your re-install of CS3 did you delete your preferences files first? If not then the re-install would not have done it for you. Try resetting your preferences files. That often rectifies these weird events with Photoshop. See this topic.
