Conversion of CPT Files

I am waiting on delivery of my new Photoshop CS. Quite a change for me from PSE. One question / problem that has been plaguing me: I have a bunch of CPT files that are supposedly Corel v 9 files. Will Photoshop be able to read these? So far, I have been unable to use any third party utilities to convert these particular files. I Also have a bunch of WPG files I inherited. I do have a way of viewing and converting them one at a time, but I'd like to be able to batch convert these and the CPT files.

P.S. I purchased ReaConverter Pro and it does not work with this particular set of WPG files and does not handle Corel v 9 files. Almost a total waste of money. It did a nice job with some other odd formats I had, but I was really disappointed with ReaConverter's limitations.

Far as I know you're out of luck. Both of those are vector graphic formats and there are unlikely to be filters for it in a bitmap programme such as PS. Someone may know of a plug in, but I'd be surprised (Go on, surprise me <G>). Illustrator and Freehand will both import cdr files if that's any help.

When I get the suite, I'll let you know. Illustrator is part of the Creative Suite, so I should have access to those tools as well. I'm just embarking on this remake of my life, so I'm looking forward to a lot of learning. Previously, I'd dabbled, but I'm was reaching restrictions, other than file import types, with the programs I was previously working with. I guess that's a sign of being ready to move on to something else.

CPT files are Corel PhotoPaint, not Corel Draw (CDR files). So they're not vector files.

You may still be able to get a copy of Corel PhotoPaint 9 at a very deep discount through Corel. It has lots of export formats which will work in Photoshop.

From my experience.. you may acutually open a Corel CPT, to a certain degree, using open as....BMP

But, you will lose any layer and object info and they may be reversed left-right, top-bottom.
Worked that way with some version 8 files, anyway.
